Product Overview
Gadolinium is a silvery-white metal with good ductility. It has a melting point of 1313°C, a boiling point of 3273°C, and a density of 7.901 g/cm³. Gadolinium exhibits magnetic properties at room temperature and is relatively stable in dry air, though it can lose its shine in humid air. Gadolinium has a high thermal neutron capture cross-section, making it widely used in the nuclear energy sector, particularly for reactor control materials and shielding. It is also used in magnetocaloric refrigeration to achieve extremely low temperatures near absolute zero. The element was discovered by Swiss chemist Marignac and named after Dutch chemist Gadolini.
