They have a density of 1.54 g\/cm\u00b3, a melting point of 839\u00b12\u00b0C, and a boiling point of 1484\u00b0C. Calcium turnings react vigorously with water and acids to produce hydrogen gas. When exposed to air, they form a protective oxide and nitride film, preventing further corrosion. Upon heating, calcium turnings possess strong reducing properties and can reduce nearly all metal oxides.
